Inlight x Girls In Tech: A Power Partnership

Our commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion in the tech world has taken a big step forward with the recently announced year-round partnership with Girls In Tech Australia, adding another feather to our cap of advocacy for gender balance in the industry. Both Steph Webster, Chief Commercial Officer, and Jacinta Carne, General Manager at Inlight, provide unique perspectives on the significance of this collaboration and what it means for Inlight's future.

Q: Steph, tell us about the genesis of the partnership between Inlight and Girls In Tech Australia.

It's an exciting time for us! The core values and goals of Girls In Tech resonate deeply with our own. Personally, having previously run my own business Miss Collective whose remit was to see more women level up their careers and connect them with opportunities, it’s been exciting for me to continue to drive this agenda at Inlight and see us cultivate this partnership with Girls in Tech. I met the founder of Girls in Tech, Adriana Gascoigne, through Miss Collective a number of years ago, and immediately resonated with their vision and purpose. With their global reach and growing local community, GIT presented the ideal opportunity for Inlight to further our commitment to diversifying the tech sector, especially in leadership roles. The partnership naturally evolved from mutual respect and a shared vision.

Q: Jacinta, you've played a significant role in shaping Inlight's culture, especially concerning diversity and inclusion. How does this partnership align with that vision?

This partnership with GIT speaks to Inlight's ongoing commitment to creating a workplace that fosters a strong sense of belonging. Our inclusive and expansive company culture and our core company values are closely aligned with Girls in Tech and their mandate. We've always prioritised diversity and inclusivity, believing they're not just buzzwords but essential aspects of a progressive and evolving company culture. Partnering with GIT is another step towards embedding these values deeper into our organisational DNA.

Q: Steph, could you elaborate on some of the primary objectives Inlight hopes to achieve with this partnership?

Absolutely. Our goals are twofold:

  1. Diversity Awareness: To actively be a part of driving diversity and inclusion in tech, ensuring that Inlight is at the forefront and influencing important initiatives.
  2. Team Diversity: We aim to attract talented individuals, with a particular emphasis on increasing the number of female candidates through our recruitment pipeline. We are confident our partnership with GIT will support this, and helping more of the community see themselves in these opportunities.

Q: Jacinta, how does the 'Career Kickstart' event align with Inlight's recruitment goals, especially concerning diversity?

The 'Career Kickstart' event provides a platform for companies to showcase themselves to the GIT community. By presenting who we are and what makes Inlight a fantastic place not only to work but to learn, we aim to bridge any gaps between potential candidates and our company. It's an opportunity to emphasise our inclusive culture and demonstrate our dedication to nurturing and developing a diverse tech team. Creating a two-way dialogue and reinforcing the human element in what it means to work at Inlight is so important and allows us to establish connections and provide support to women in the GIT community, particularly those who are just starting out in their careers.

Q: Steph, can you give us some insights into the 'Power Tech Panel' scheduled for May 2024?

I’m pumped for this one! The 'Power Tech Panel' is envisioned as a comprehensive discussion forum. With Renece Brewster, GIT's Co-Managing Director, steering the conversation, we will deep-dive into prevalent trends in our sector and delve into pivotal subjects like retaining senior women in leadership roles. It's about knowledge sharing, continuous learning, and cultivating community ties.

Q: Jacinta, reflecting on the Executive Leadership Dinner, how do such events contribute to Inlight's mission on gender diversity?

The Executive Leadership Dinner was more than just an event; it celebrated female leaders across the tech industry and gave us a lens outside our own day-to-day into some of the immense challenges and accomplishments of some very driven and talented women.

Interacting with 30 senior women from the tech industry provided rich insights and reinforced the essence of what we aspire to achieve. Having strong representation from the Inlight team made it all the more special. It's events like these that drive home the importance of our partnership with GIT and our ongoing efforts to champion diversity and ensure that women can always see a place for themselves in the workplace and the boardroom. You can't be what you can't see!
