New Inlighters

It’s been a busy few months at Inlight and not just because three massive projects - Hostplus website, Chadstone app and Angle Auto Finance Dealer Portal - have been launched to market since late 2022.

We’ve been fortunate to welcome some amazing new, talented people to the team across the agency’s different disciplines and as you’ll see if you read on, they’ve also come to join us through a myriad of ways….

Sarah

As our newest Senior Producer, Sarah originally hails from Oregon and has honed her craft in LA and Austin before making the jump to Australia and calling Melbourne home. Locally, she’s previously worked at Clemenger BBDO, Tribal and AKQA and joins Inlight with not only big agency experience but an infectious, bubbly energy which we know our clients will love.

What excited you about joining Inlight?

I love how genuine all the team members were that I interviewed with. A strong and approachable leadership team is very important for me, and it was clear I would have that at Inlight. I also loved all the little perks that showed work life balance and employee happiness is important.

What have you enjoyed most about being a part of Inlight so far?

Again, it has to go back to the genuine people. Everyone is kind, talented, and helpful. There’s no ego here.

If you had some advice to give someone wanting to get into the world of digital, what would it be?

Find an organization with a strong leadership team that believes in upskilling and empowering their employees. If starting out with an internship or an entry role, you want to make sure you’re surrounded by a supportive team that wants you to succeed. Knowledge in the digital world comes with experience, so asking a lot of questions is also key. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, take notes, make mistakes - and learn from them.

What's the one thing we don't already know about you?

I’ve been a Backstreet Boys fan since I was 5 years old. I’ve seen them 5 times in concert as an adult - yes, as an adult haha. I’ll be seeing them again in a few weeks when they return to Australia for their world tour. I’m a sucker for the 90s boy band, no shame.

Diego

Continuing with our new international contingent, Diego has found his way to Inlight after relocating from Bolivia in November last year after being sponsored on a 482 visa. In a post-pandemic success story, Diego's full-stack coding skills were known to the team after working alongside Inlight’s linked start-up Lighthouse.io (now TEAM Software) and was welcomed with open arms after arriving and coming straight from the airport to our inaugural Inlight Gala. He loves his live music, plays guitar and is on a mission to start a band here in Melbourne.

What excited you about joining Inlight?

Experiencing a whole new work culture in a whole new country. Experiencing culture shock every once in a while is great for the spirit!

What have you enjoyed most about being a part of Inlight so far?

There is a lot of conscious effort put into making people feel welcome.

If you had some advice to give someone wanting to get into the world of digital, what would it be?

Be on the lookout for new technology developments, discussions, blogs, social media, news, etc. you can learn and grow so much from these.

What's the one thing we don't already know about you?

Whenever I can, I love attending live shows, especially if it is rock music! 🎸🤘

Jeremiah

They say good things come in threes and Jeremiah is the final one of the trio who has come to us from beyond Australian shores, although (like Diego) he’s arrived much more recently. Jeremiah has been with Inlight for the past 6 months, working remotely from Manila but relocation was always in the works and he only last month finally touched down in Melbourne. Joining as a mobile developer, this is his first time moving to a new country and excited to experience life “Down Under”.

What excited you about joining Inlight?

Joining very talented individuals is the most exciting part of my journey with Inlight. I am part of a team that gives amazing support to staff and cares about our clients. I’m also excited to share my skills with the teams and help clients innovate their digital products.

What have you enjoyed most about being a part of Inlight so far?

I have just relocated to Melbourne from the Philippines and I loved how the team welcomed me on my first day. We had nice chats and it showed me how friendly they are.

If you had some advice to give someone wanting to get into the world of digital, what would it be?

Be curious and open to innovation. Technology changes quickly and you'll need to be flexible and adaptable in the digital world.

What's the one thing we don't already know about you?

I have a secret love for funny dance moves on Tik Tok. I like to copy them but mostly in private. I haven’t had the courage to post them in public yet.

Nick

Two Nicks are better than one. Obviously a motto our Strategy & Design Director, Harley believed when Nick Linney-Barber joined Nick Sutcliffe in our growing strategy team. While his at work name, beyond the now confusing ‘Nick’, is yet to be landed on (‘LB’ felt lazy), Mr Linney-Barber brings with him a wide ranging background, from the start-up world in Silicon Valley to big four consulting. He loves keeping fit and healthy as demonstrated by the fact he has already been taking advantage of Inlight’s flexible working hours by starting before 8am so he can get the exercise in before dinner.

What excited you about joining Inlight?

Once I learned more about it, the culture was something that really enticed me; it aligned well with how I like to work and was reflective of a really positive environment. The opportunity to work across multiple industries with a variety of interesting products and clients was also a very exciting prospect!

What have you enjoyed most about being a part of Inlight so far?

The thing that stands out the most to me is the people; everyone I’ve interacted with has been super inviting and friendly. Everyone gets along great and that just makes the environment and the work day much more enjoyable.

If you had some advice to give someone wanting to get into the world of digital, what would it be?

I would definitely say to make sure they stay on top of trends and emerging technology. The digital world constantly moves faster and faster and what’s relevant now may not be relevant in a year or two. If you want to innovate, it’s important to understand where the world is today and where it’s heading. I typically look at Twitter and LinkedIn to aggregate this insight but also, CB Insights has a great newsletter I’d recommend.

What's the one thing we don't already know about you?

I like sunny days, but I can’t stand the heat; I much prefer cold weather and would pick being in the snow over going to the beach any day!
